IAN WRIGHT STUART ianw@stuarti.freeserve.co.uk
Hello from UK! I too am descended from Charles Stewart of Skye and PEI- my grandfather Capt Neil Stuart of PEI was his grandson. I even think I can see a family resemblance if Angus Malcom's hair really was red - there is a strong red-haired gene surviving today in my family. Have you found cousin Craig Buchanan's web site http://www.pair.com/buchanan/index.htm which has much information about Canadian, American and UK links ?.
The diary is fascinating - but that journey in a bark must have been hellish at times ! However, PEI produced many good seamen.; and my father and my two brothers followed that tradition. Did Angus Malcolm speak Gaelic?
Best wishes, Ian Wright Stuart

I think the site is absolutely wonderful, & have sent your father an email to say so.

I am so glad that some of the things I contributed like Margaret Stewart's writings, have been able to be used. That could have been lost so easily. I only recently came about that from her great-granddaughter, who had it written in pencil, by Margaret, on scrap paper amongst a whole lot of bits & pieces. I had only made the effort to contact her because I was preparing data for Mangawhai Museum. And my association with Sandy's descendants came about by accident; about 25 years ago I was in a painting group with Sandy's grand-daughter who happened to mention one day that she & her mother (Margaret) were going to Kaiwaka to a school reunion! So the long focal length of the lens of time has contributed, in part, to your grand effort & family knowledge.

Are you going to incorporate a guest book?

Also, could you name the children in the photo of Malcom and family? It is easy to pick out Cliff, the youngest, & Myanetta. But who are the others?

I think your site is so professional & very well done. I wish my father-in-law was alive to see it.

I am having trouble downloading the family tree - just can't seem to make it work, so will need to get some advice on that.

Best regards

CONGRATULATIONS

Carole (Barry's wife - Cliff's daughter-in-law) Stewart

My cousin,Robyn Parker nee Mackinnon, in Wellington sent me the web address since our great grandfather was Angus Mackinnon. I now live in New York, USA .My mother was Elizabeth Mary Mackinnon, daughter of John Mackinnon, son of Angus. She had 4 siblings and married Henry Howard. I married Robert McGregor from Wanganui and we moved to New York in 1973
I have just reread my comments and realized that the info given was slightly incorrect. Mary Ann Stewart, daughter of Angus and Margaret, married Angus Mackinnon, my great grandfather.

What a wonderful web site! Very well done!
As a distant relative (a stewart married Theophilous DesBrisay in PEI in the 1700s) I found it fascinating.
I downloaded GenoPro and installed it, but still I can't view the family trees posted at http://stewarts.gen.nz/GN_GenealogicalTrees.htm.
Even if download the file, save it on my computer, and then try to open it directly with GenoPro, I get a "Unable to Open File" error message.
And when I click on the link in the web page, I get the same garbled text I saw before installing GenoPro.
Do you have any suggestions on how to get GenoPro to work with these files?
(I'm using the Free version of GenoPro of course.)
Best Regards,
Greg DesBrisay

Craig,
Please pass along my compliments for the site. Very nice indeed. My gg-grandmother was born on PEI, and she and her family left NB in 1863 for NZ via Gravesend. I still have much to find out about my lot but I certainly enjoyed reading about the Stewarts.

Hi Des, The web site is great. I have sent the details to as many of our lot who have emails. It's fun reading through the letters isn't it? My husband is sure that that is where my inability to spell originates!!!Thanks for all the hard work

Des,
Thanks for your message. No Stewarts in my line that I'm aware. My PEI connection is a Barbara MCLEAN. Her husband was Thomas SARGENT. They arrived in 1863 aboard the "War Spirit" and thereafter settled in Auckland. I keep thinking that they must have had family there ahead of them - but only speculation. I really did enjoy your site. It is different than most sites I've visited and it kept me going from page to page. Certainly there's something to be gained for anyone who had ancestors make the same decisions at that time. Just a very nice job.
(I *did* have a chuckle or two when reading the one diary. Wonderful stuff!)Regards,
Carol
